TITLE VI TRAINING OPTIONS

Any individual who is a paid employee (state, research, foundation), including hired work-study students, must complete one of two training options. All students must complete the student training in the Brightspace portal. Employee training is distributed through Human Resources. ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ uses Vector for training modules. The options are described below:

OPTION ONE: ONLINE TRAINING

Compliance training, similar to Title IX, is available on the website. Training attendance, participation, and knowledge checks are maintained by Human Resources for employees and some student groups. Student groups include work-study students, athletes, and SGO. All other students will complete Title VI training in Brightspace. This includes assessment measures at the conclusion of training.

OPTION TWO: LIVE OR IN-PERSON TRAINING

If an employee attends a scheduled compliance training hosted by ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ (in class, orientation, etc.) that includes Title VI content, credit can be issued and substituted for online training.

All training modules are valid for one year.

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND CONTINUOUS LEARNING

Beginning in August 2026, SUNY State-operated and community colleges will require that faculty, staff, and students as part of the approval process and require student-athletes to complete training in the first (30) days of the term. Once the Title VI Training module is forwarded, the time period begins. ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ will record participation rates for each category and forward results annually to SUNY.

ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ recognizes that learning is continuous. Methods of training and educating students on Title VI may include, but are not limited to:

  • Orientation and Welcome Programs
  • Peer educational programs
  • Online training
  • Social media outreach
  • First-year seminars
  • Course syllabi; embedded in course content
  • Faculty and staff campus-wide programs and speakers
  • Institution-wide shared reading programs
  • Brochures, TV (internal) marketing, and other targeted print and email materials
  • Programming surrounding large, recurring campus events related to overall health and wellness and creating inclusive environments
  • Sponsoring or participating in SUNY-related collaborative programs on Title VI
  • Partnering with local agencies in the county and state to offer education and resources to students, faculty and staff
